COSTUME, MAKE-UP & HAIR

Each dancer has a special costume for the dance(s).  Please label all costumes, shoes, and accessories with your dancer’s name or initials. Rented costumes will have a tag for names.

Do not attempt to wash, dry clean, or iron costumes (a handheld steamer is recommended for removing wrinkles).  Please put costumes, shoes, and any accessories in the student’s costume bag.

After the concert, shoes will be kept, but costumes will be returned that day. *Mendota shoes will be gathered by the teacher to keep at school.

Tights are designed to be underwear beneath a costume.  Explain to your dancer that tights are worn instead of underwear.  Undergarments may only be worn with a costume if they are not visible.  Check that bras do not show with the costume.  Choose undergarments that at skin tone. Nothing bright colored. Not all costumes have tights; you will receive specific costume notes with your costume.

Make-up is important so your dancer’s face will be visible on stage. Stage lights are very bright and wash out features. Pink Blush and lipstick are recommended for girls. Please choose a soft pink lipstick. Good options include rose, dusty pink, mauve, or natural pink tones.
Avoid bright pink or red shades. Mascara can be used if children have blond lashes/by choice. Boys do not wear makeup.

Jewelry is not allowed on stage.  Please also remove nail polish and temporary tattoos.

Long hair should be secured in a mid-height ponytail using a hair tie that matches the dancer’s hair color. Bangs are fine as long as they do not cover the eyes. No long pieces of hair should be left down. Please use hair gel or hairspray at home to smooth any flyaway hairs.
