My Story
Jaycelie Stewart is a dedicated third-year student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Dance. Immersed in both rigorous academic training and real-world performance, Jaycelie is developing a well-rounded approach to her craft that combines technical skill, cultural awareness, and a deep passion for community engagement. She is not only a professional commercial dancer but also an advocate for making the arts accessible, working actively to bring high-quality dance experiences to diverse and low-income populations who may not otherwise have access to them.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jaycelie’s journey began at Bella Beauties Dance Studio, a Black-owned dance school known for nurturing young talent and instilling discipline and self-confidence in its students. After only a few months of training there, she earned a place in the studio’s company at the age of 12—an early milestone that affirmed her natural talent and work ethic. Over the years, Jaycelie has cultivated a dynamic repertoire, gravitating toward hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary styles while also developing a solid technical foundation in ballet and lyrical dance. This breadth of training allows her to move fluidly between commercial and concert dance environments, adapting to a wide range of choreographic demands.

Her performance credits reflect this versatility. Jaycelie has appeared at Juneteenth Festivals, Summerfest, Milwaukee Bucks games, and other major community events, bringing high-energy performances to large and diverse audiences. She has served as a backup dancer for up-and-coming artists, lending her skills to live shows and promotional appearances. She has also performed under the direction of acclaimed choreographer Frank Gatson, appeared in multiple music videos, and continues to expand her portfolio of commercial work. These experiences have sharpened her professionalism, stage presence, and ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-profile settings.
Beyond performing, Jaycelie dedicates her summers to teaching dance at various locations throughout Milwaukee. In doing so, she passes on not only technical skills but also the confidence, discipline, and joy that dance has brought to her own life. Her teaching work reflects her belief that the arts can be a powerful force for empowerment, connection, and positive change—values that inform every aspect of her career.

As she continues her studies at UW–Madison, Jaycelie is building a unique path that merges performance, education, and community service. Whether on stage or in the studio, she is committed to using her talents to inspire others, broaden access to the arts, and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the communities she serves.
