Anna Qiu

Anna was a two-year company member for Madison Contemporary Vision Dance Company. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, she danced with the Atlanta Professional Dance Academy (APDA) for much of her childhood and teenage years. Under the guidance of Wei Dongsheng, Jenny Chen, Sara Wei Wong, and Li Mi, Anna mainly trained in classical ballet and various styles of Chinese Folk Dance. She performed roles in Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Coppelia, Four Seasons, and Serenade. Between 2009-2011, APDA brought Chinese dance to International Dance Challenge, where Anna competed and received high awards in both solo and group divisions.

Anna attended college at Duke University, where she danced with Duke Chinese Dance (DCD) for all four years of undergrad. She choreographed a variety of traditional and modern minority and Han dances. She also served on DCD’s exec board as costume manager, showcase chair, and ultimately, artistic director. Simultaneously, for three years, she was a dance teacher who shared her love of Chinese dance with girls age 5-12 at the Chinese School at Chapel Hill. At Duke, she also took jazz classes and had the opportunity to perform in one of Nina Wheeler’s jazz repertory pieces for the Duke Dance Department’s 2014 November Dances performance.
