My Story
Sydney Mattmiller, a dedicated movement enthusiast and dance educator, is driven by a fervent commitment to learning and growth. With a focus on improvisation and exploration, Sydney's dance journey began 18 years ago in her hometown of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She honed her skills at local studios, Forthcoming Danspace and Dance Dynamics, where she immersed herself in both recital and competition styles. Additionally, Sydney trained with the pre-professional company, Point Dance Ensemble, cultivating a diverse foundation in dance.
Sydney's movement vocabulary is a rich blend of contemporary and street styles, augmented by her recent exploration of synesthesia. This unique tool allows her to intricately weave together rhythms, dynamics, and influences from Yoga, Pilates, Laban/Bartenieff, and weightlifting. During her time at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, Sydney collaborated with esteemed choreographers such as Maria Gillespie, Daniel Burkholder, Alfonso Cervera, and Aysha Upchurch, further expanding her artistic horizons.
Currently, Sydney holds a teaching position at Lake Shore Dance in the Milwaukee area, where she fosters a nurturing environment that encourages her students' creativity and drive. Her gentle approach to teaching reflects her belief in the transformative power of movement and the inherent joy found in everyday motions.
Sydney's passion for dance is rooted in the belief that movement is ubiquitous, capable of transcending boundaries and fostering connection within communities. She is committed to bringing joy and comfort to the dance world, while also advocating for the importance of building both mental and physical strength. As a valued member of the dance community, Sydney seeks to inspire others to embrace movement as a catalyst for personal and collective growth.
